Nicole Miller to Mentor LIM College Students for 80th Annual Student-produced Fashion Show

LIM College's 80th Annual Fashion Show: A Timeless Celebration of Style and Sustainability
A Fashionable Legacy Meets Modern Mentorship
LIM College, the renowned institution focused on the business of fashion and lifestyle, is gearing up for its 80th annual student-produced fashion show. This year's spectacle, titled "Timeless Threads," will unfold on April 4th at 6 p.m. at The Glasshouse in New York City. Prepare to be captivated by a dynamic exploration of fashion's cyclical nature, celebrating enduring silhouettes, recurring trends, and the ever-important concepts of upcycling, recycling, and sustainability.
In a groundbreaking partnership, iconic designer Nicole Miller joins the event as the presenting sponsor and mentor. This marks the first time the LIM College fashion show has welcomed a designer mentor in this capacity. Miller's influence will extend beyond financial support, as she provides invaluable guidance to students throughout the design and execution process. Adding a touch of historical glamour, Miller will also lend 10 archival pieces from her own collection to grace the runway.
"Throughout my entire career, I have learned by doing, observing, experimenting, taking risks and working hard," said Miller. "The LIM College Fashion Show gives students an invaluable opportunity to do all these things across the disciplines of styling, marketing, design, event planning and production, visuals and industry relations," she added.
A Runway of Emerging Talent and Established Names
The "Timeless Threads" runway will showcase a diverse tapestry of creativity. Alongside the student designs, collections from notable figures such as Mondo Guerra, winner of "Project Runway All Stars" Season One, and Chris Mena, founder and creative director of Made by Mena, will be featured. Attendees can anticipate a captivating eight-scene show highlighting the future of fashion.
Learning by Doing: An Immersive Educational Experience
This fashion show isn't just about the glamour; it’s a hands-on learning laboratory for LIM students. They are responsible for every aspect of the show, from planning and production to marketing and industry relations. Guided by experienced faculty and industry mentors, students gain invaluable real-world experience and forge crucial connections that can launch their careers.
"The fashion industry is extremely competitive, complicated and challenging, and putting together a professional-level show gives students a unique opportunity to understand so many facts of the business and make connections with industry professionals. I am happy to help shape the next generation of fashion leaders," Miller explained.
Sustainability Takes Center Stage
Reflecting the industry's growing focus on ethical and environmental responsibility, the theme of sustainability weaves throughout the show. Each scene will explore a different facet of sustainable fashion, showcasing innovative approaches to upcycling, recycling, and responsible design.
Scott Carnz, Provost of LIM College, highlighted, “The overarching show is related to sustainability, and the students are trying to demonstrate various takes on what sustainability can mean in the industry. Each scene has a different take on sustainability. The students identified designers in the city who reflect the various aspects of sustainability.”
A Collaborative Effort: Industry Partners and Alumni Mentorship
The LIM College Fashion Show is a testament to the power of collaboration. Along with Nicole Miller and Pantone (the gold sponsor), WWD serves as the official media partner, lending their influential voice to amplify the event's message. A distinguished group of honorary chairs, including Maryanne Grisz, president and CEO of Fashion Group International, and Natasha Verma of the Verma Foundation (the show's charity partner), are actively involved in supporting the students' efforts.
Adding another layer of mentorship, nine LIM alumni in fashion leadership positions will guide and advise the student designers. This intergenerational exchange of knowledge and experience enriches the learning process and reinforces LIM College's commitment to fostering a supportive and thriving fashion community.
“We are thrilled to partner with LIM College, a premier institution for the business of fashion, in its commitment to provide immersive educational opportunities for the next generation,” said Amanda Smith, chief executive officer of Fairchild Media. “As the leading voice in fashion across all disciplines, supporting future leaders is integral to WWD’s mission.”
